More Golden-Silver-Bronze Age!

These two banners appeared on the Golden-Silver-Bronze Ages Message Board, and I'll have a few more up in the coming weeks and months. :)

Not too much to say about this banner, except it was a little fun to showcase the different outfits Batman and Robin wore in 1949 and 1966. I even added the Bat-fight sound effects on the top of the banner when I made it 2-3 years ago. :)

This is another joke banner I'd made like the Superman/Blackhawk banner, except this time, the actor is Tom Tyler. He portrayed Captain Marvel and Phantom in the very early 1940's. His Captain Marvel captured the flying special effects not improved upon until the first Christopher Reeve Superman film came out in 1978. I also found his Phantom serial to be a LOT of fun to watch, but unfortunately neither serial saw a true sequel. The Phantom did (SORT of), but the hero only wore the Phantom's mask and cowl and was called Captain Africa.

I'll have more posts put up later! :)

POW! ZAP! BIFF!

It's time for some Batman banners now, in case you couldn't guess from the title. :) Banners such as these and more can be found on the Batman Message Board.

Heh. I always imagined this banner as being like a Rorschach ink blot. :) See how everything is copied on each end? Of COURSE you do! :)

I've always liked "Batman and Robin" more than just plain "Batman," so a lot of my banners reflect that. I never liked most of the "team-ups" of the early 1970's, though. Most of the stories seemed to consist of Robin getting captured and Batman getting all the action while going to his rescue. It seems like most of the '70's writers only liked Batman, and saw Robin as nothing but an easy way to make their hero look good.

I always loved the 1949 serial, and the '66 TV show. When I found the "Bat-crossing" sign on-line, I KNEW I had to make use of it, as in the banner above. :)

I had been searching for the three images above for a LONG time. I FINALLY found 'em a few months back, and was able to create not only this banner, but a very similar one on the Gold-Silver-Bronze Ages board. This banner also made me want to copy those stupid newspaper headlines about comics. Almost EVERY one always begins with "Pow! Zap! Biff!", so I figured I could use it since I love the characters. :)

Stay tuned for more banners coming up! :)

Look! Up In The Sky! It's A Bird! It's A Plane!

It's Superman Banners! Yes, these banners all graced the Superman Message Board. :)

This banner was my VERY first banner ever made. I had NO idea what I was doin', either! LOL I just wanted to be ABLE to make banners. :) I just took this Fred Hembeck comic strip and slightly resized it, and I was done. Then the moderator resized it the REST of the way! :)

I really liked this banner, but not the background color. Superman and Supergirl aren't Batman and Batgirl! They operate at ANY time of the day or night, and ENJOY the sunshine! ;) I used to have a whole page of Patriotic Superman and Supergirl pics with the national anthem playing in the background several years back. :)

Now, these two are more like it! Superman's bright colors should stand out against ANY background, bright as day, even against WHITE. I started getting a LITTLE adventurous with these two, but not too much yet. :)

More banners will be comin' along! :)

A Few More!

Okay, these weren't part of the Cartoon Board, but rather the Golden, Silver, Bronze Ages Message Board. Now, at this writing, I don't have a banner up on the board, but I think I have a few on a COUPLE of boards. :)

Click on the link above if you think you might like to check out the board. :)

The above banner was also used for a Yahoo fan club for old serials I once ran. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the copy that stated it was for the Gold-Silver-Bronze Board, but otherwise it's the same. I grew up on these old serials, and they're still a LOT of fun. If you've got a superhero fan in your life, you might want to look into getting them a copy of their favorite hero in an old serial. :)

The next banner actually features the same actor portraying two different serial heroes back in the 1940's: Superman and Blackhawk, hence the joke. Kirk Alyn was actually one of the bigger serial stars along with Buster (Flash Gordon) Crabbe and a few others.

I'll have more later! I have over 100 more, with more which haven't been used yet. :)

Some Of My First!

These banners were from the old defunct Cartoon Message Board I once moderated on comicboards.com  Don't go lookin' for the board there, because it's no longer listed, unfortunately.  Traffic had gone down so badly, and I'd lost a lot of interest in the board after a brother's suicide (RIP, Keith), that I eventually gave it up.

However, I'm coming back a bit.  :)  You can go to quite a few boards and see some of my banners there.

So, without further ado, here are a few of my very first banners for the Cartoon Board!

As you can see, the banners are rather plain.  My main plan was to kind of mix'n'mash different cartoon "universes" together in such a way one COULDN'T do with comicbook characters on too many boards.  You'll see banners in the future that have Bugs Bunny meeting Popeye meeting Captain Planet meeting Mighty Mouse meeting Birdman (or something similar).  :)

I'll be back shortly with a few more banners!  :)

Introduction

Hi.  My name is Gernot (pronounced "GRR-note"), and this is my first blog.  I've been a comicbook fan most of my life, most notably Superman and Batman, and have created several banners for http://www.comicboards.com/ in my free time.

Here's where I plan to showcase the banners I've made and maybe talk about 'em a bit (when I made them, why I made 'em, what on Earth was I thinking when I made 'em--THAT sort'a thing).  YOU are (hopefully) going to sit back and "Oooooh" and "Ahhhhhhhh" them all, as well as leave me a comment here and there.  :)

Now, I'll start posting some banners this weekend.  I'd been planning to set up this blog for some time, and now it's here!  :)
